Technician at Istituto Nazionale Geofisica e Vulcanologia (Italy)

Gianfranco Cianchini works a technician at Istituto Nazionale Geofisica e Vulcanologia (Italy) since 2000. His main interests are on Seismology and Geomagnetism. In Seismology, he applies concepts of Information and Chaos Theory to seismic data catalogues, in order to retrospectively characterize sequences culminating in large earthquakes in terms of their behaviour before the main events and to possibly find precursory patterns that could help to gain new physical insights into those phenomena. In Geomagnetism, he analyses observatory and satellite magnetic data in search of possible magnetic signature of seismogenic origin by means of nonlinear and entropy-based methods. He has worked on IR data from satellite in search of thermal anomalies before large earthquakes. Within SAFE he leads the WP2000: Scientific Requirements.
